Maureen J. Davis

Maureen J. Davis, resident of the Ridgecrest Village in Davenport, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Davenport. Funeral services will be Friday, April 15, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Ridgecrest Village Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 pm until the service at the Ridgecrest Chapel. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Ridgecrest. Rene was born August 12, 1916 in Schuyler County, Illinois, the daughter of Archie and Elizabeth (Strong) Demaree. She graduated from Rushville High School in Rushville, Illinois and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL.

She married Carl H. Davis on June 16, 1939 in Rushville, IL. Through her life, Rene worked at Engineer’s Supplies, the Rock Island Post Office and at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1978.

Rene has been active all through her life with bowling, square dancing, playing cards, bicycling and taking care of other people. She’s always been busy and enjoyed life so much. Carl and Rene were members of Newcomb Church for fifty years and for the last six years have been members of the Ridgecrest Church. Most of all, Rene loved and cherished her large family.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Carl, Davenport, daughter, Judy (Richard) Benson, Wausau, WI; grandchildren: Tom Parker Cedar Falls, IA, Beth Fox, Greenville, WI, Chris Benson, Minneapolis, MN, Brad Benson, Long Grove, IA, and Jody Schneider, Davenport; great grandchildren: Lilly, Joseph and Charlie Parker, Ally and Dillon Fox, Aaron, Andrew and Austin Benson and Cade and Avery Schneider; niece, Janet, great nieces and nephew: Tina, Vicki, Margaret and John.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jim (November 2003) and a sister, Maxine Goodwin.
