Larry was born at home on July 2, 1942, in Garrettson, South Dakota to William and Evelyn Roelandt. He is survived by his dedicated, loving wife Patti and sons Randall and Jay. His son Brad preceded him in death, but not before providing Larry with 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His greatest love, however, is for his wonderful wife of almost 60 years and all their shared experiences.
Larry provided for his family working in the printing industry for over 40 years at Star Forms, Bowater Inc., and Ennis Business Forms. That paid the bills but what Larry hopes to be remembered most for is his volunteer work. After the death of his father in his teens Larry attained the rank of Eagle Scout, using those experiences to train other scouts and serving as an assistant scout master with his sons.
He served his country for 6 years in the Iowa National Guard. He organized the Illowa Employees Federal Credit Union serving as president for 15 years, served as vice president of the Mississippi Valley Archers, and helped reorganize the Davenport chapter of Izaac Walton League. Larry spent 5 years helping others as a volunteer income tax preparer. His greatest passion was conducting educational school tours for 7 years as Park Ranger at Effigy Mounds National Monument, Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
When not working or volunteering Larry found time to enjoy various recreational activities. He was an avid fisherman and bowler. He enjoyed bicycling, hiking, and playing cards. After retiring he spent winter months in Texas for 19 years, while spending summer months at Big River campground in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin for the last 44 years.
Preceding Larry in death are his grandparents, parents, his only brother Bill, and his son Brad.
He is now able to join their souls again in the place that God has prepared for all of us.
Larry is survived by his high school sweetheart, Patti, sons Randall and Jay (Dawn Evans) and daughter in law Kelli. Grandchildren: Ashley (Nate) Howard, Aleq (Eric) Pobanz, Cydney (Matt) Weitzel, Rhedt and Rhys, Mackenzie (Brandon) Garnica, Hillarey (Trey) Jacobs. Great grandchildren: Nolan, Meara, and Ian Howard, Hunter and Maya Pobanz, Kaedyn and Kora Garnica, Landyn Jacobs.
