Julie Adella Smith

Julie A. Smith, 73, of Davenport passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the comfort of her home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at the mortuary. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 18, 2017 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel with visitation 1:00 to 2:00. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Park Board for a plaque in Leach Park in her memory. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Julie was born August 9, 1944 in Moline, to Edmund and Madeliene Van Den Hende. She was united in marriage to Larry Smith on September 29, 1962. He preceded her in death May 13, 2006. She worked for Fireman’s Fund Insurance, White Owl Wood Products and American Family Insurance. Later she earned a Hotel Management Degree and worked for Clarion, formerly Holiday Inn. In her early years, Julie played tennis and bowled on a league. Later she was a member of the Red Hat Ladies. Julie enjoyed playing Wii, watching Wheel of Fortune, eating out and shopping. Julie was always positive. She continuously looked out for others, touching many. She will be remembered for the wonderful mother and grandmother she was. Family meant everything to her. She loved spending time with her sisters. Survivors include children: Shari (Scott) Souza, Craig Smith, Ricky (Hedda) Smith, grandchildren: Chevy, Holden, Eyah and Ella Smith; step-grandchildren: Nick Souza and Jessica Redden; great grandchildren: Tyler Souza, Rachel Redden and Charlotte Souza; sisters, Joyce (Bill) Short,and Jeannie Gross; brother-in-law, Dave Burkhead, and dog, Abby Rose. In addition to her parents and husband Julie, was preceded in death by her brother, Richard, sister, Joanne and brother-in-law, Sonny.
