Funeral services for John C. Plank, 83, of Davenport, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the All Saints Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial will follow at Galesburg (IL) Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Mr. Plank died on Tuesday, May 31st, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic/St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. John Charles Plank was born on August 18, 1932 at the Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL, the son of Emil and Selma (Johanson) Plank. He was a 1950 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1954 graduate of Augustana College, where he earned his BA degree in Religion and a minor in Sociology and History. While attending, he was also a member of the Gamma Alpha Beta Fraternity. On June 11, 1954, he married the love of his life, Donna Nairn, in Maquoketa, IA. Mr. Plank worked as a Manufacturers’ Representative for several Fortune 500 companies. He was, also, very involved with several civic organizations, including Davenport Noon Optimist Club, the American Scandinavian Association, the International Order of Vikings, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Quad-City Questors, Tips Club and various Bridge and Duplicate Bridge Clubs. He was currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Davenport Noon Optimist Club Foundation and sat on numerous civic boards of directors. He was a founder of the Optimists Avenue of Flags program. John was a charter and founding member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Davenport, where he served on the organizational committee. He was a Golden Age Master in Duplicate Bridge and also, enjoyed playing party bridge. He was an avid golfer, a former member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, the former Davenport Club, a current member of the Davenport Outing Club and the Lindsey Park Yacht Club. He loved anything Swedish, was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Illini fan and loved his fishing trips to Leech Lake, MN and wintering in Florida. Surviving members of his family include – his Wife: Donna of Davenport; 2 Daughters: Sheryn (Stephen) Levings of Davenport and Dr. Lisa (Timothy) Arndt of Bettendorf; 3 Grandchildren: Andrew Arndt of Bettendorf, Jared (Jami) Levings of Juneau, AK, and Linnea (Stephen) Corcoran of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, David Levings. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be made to the All Saints Lutheran Church Mortgage Fund or the Davenport Noon Optimist Foundation.
