Heather was born on August 20, 1968 in Racine, WI, the daughter of John and Anita (Marz) McDonald. Heather graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1987. She married her love, Greg Chapman, on Feb. 5, and they have been married for 25 years and raised four children together.
She was proud of her German roots and her family in the Amanas. She loved collecting the things that belonged to her family – like the schrank (or wardrobe) and the tea set from her aunt’s Amana home. Her cozy home – complete with a beautiful flower garden out front, a cross stitch on her lap, and a Hallmark movie on the TV – was one of her favorite places to be with the people she loves.
Some of Heather’s favorite activities were things she loved just because they meant being with her family – camping and bonfires at Scott County Park (including s’mores with the grandkids), watching the Hawkeyes or Packers football games, going to concerts, and sightseeing around the Midwest. Just this year, she finally got her bucket list car – a Mustang convertible – to enjoy those drives up the river with the top down.
Heather worked as a pharmacy tech at Hy-Vee for 20 years, but the work she loved most was with her family. While raising a daughter with Cystic Fibrosis, she became a mentor for new CF families and helped in fundraising for research. Married to a LeClaire firefighter, she built a strong firefighter community of friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Greg; daughter, Cassie (Wade) Whiting, Eldridge; sons Josh (Jill) Chapman, Davenport, and Christopher Chapman, LeClaire; grandchildren, Rylie, Wilhelmine, Ella, Freya, Addison and Arabella; mother, Anita McDonald, Bettendorf; brother, Anthony (Lisa) McDonald, Thornton, CO; sister, Monique McDonald, Bettendorf; and 16 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, John, her father-in-law, Larry, and her daughter, Analiese.
