Visitation will be Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 10 am until noon at Runge Mortuary. Services to celebrate his life will be held Thursday at noon, at the Runge Mortuary. The family requests that anyone who would like to, wear their favorite sports team clothing for his services. His final resting place will be in Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may go to The Alzheimer’s Association.
Greg was born in Chicago on January 15, 1949. He served in the Army from 1973 until March 1978. While in the Army, Greg played volleyball and attended Officer’s Candidate School prior to his discharge. He married Mishele “Misi” Hayne on November 4, 1995. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2007. He married Deborah (Hardy) Coen on September 15, 2012 in Davenport.
He graduated from Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago. He then graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in business and went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Business. While in college, he worked full time at several Chicago area businesses including South Shore Country Club. After moving to the Quad Cities, he worked as an Ombudsman for the Rock Island Arsenal and retired in March 2008.
In his free time, Greg enjoyed bowling, playing softball on area leagues, coaching his son, Chase’s Little League games in earlier years and was a member of MENSA.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Deborah, son, Chase, Moline, sister, Cheryl (Tom) Cowser, Steger, IL, brother, John Kwinski, Chandler, AZ, stepson, Jason Coen, OH and his daughter, Ava, and stepdaughter, Carrie Coen, Bettendorf, nieces, Amy Cowser and Megan Aviles, and beloved cats, Coco and Lindsey
In addition to his parents and first wife, Misi, Gregory was preceded in death by brother, Stephen Kwinski, and nephew and wife, Michael and Mary Jane Kwinski.
