Donald F. “Pickles” VanHoosier, age 90, of Davenport, IA, passed away on December 12, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 11am at Weerts Funeral Home; visitation will be before the service starting at 10am. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park following the service. Memorials in Donald’s name may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America or to a charity of your choice.
Don was born on December 28, 1933 in Northwood Iowa to Charles and Barbara VanHoosier. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Ullrich on February 18, 1956. He started his career in heat treating at M.A. Ford, Tri-City Heat Treat, and later retired from Caterpillar Tractor. Don enjoyed word find puzzles, going out for breakfast and taking care of his dog "Muffin". In his younger years he participated in bowling and softball leagues. He also enjoyed coaching girls fastpitch softball
Those left to honor his memory are his children Donald R. (Lore) VanHoosier and Beth A. (James) Sutter; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and brother Fritz (Martha) VanHoosier.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude, sons William VanHoosier and Steven VanHoosier, daughter Vicky Hopp, brothers Arthur VanHoosier, Charles VanHoosier, sister Frances Wingerter, and his parents.
