Dale E. Borts, 89, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus. Per his request, a private ceremony was held to celebrate his life on November 11th. Burial was at Davenport Memorial Park. Online condolences and tributes may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com
Dale was born on October 9, 1924 on a farm in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He learned early on the value of hard work and sacrifice. He was the son of Hugh and Emma Henrietta (Kramersmeier) Borts. While he chose not to pursue farming later in life, he never lost his love of the land. After serving in the Air Force, Dale moved to Davenport, Iowa where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Welchman. They were united in marriage in 1953. Dorothy predeceased Dale in 1995.
Dale loved history, as well as all current events and politics, and remained a vorocious reader up until his death. He was a lifelong student of religion and spirituality and never gave up his quest for the meaning of life. He had very strong convictions and enjoyed nothing more than sharing those with his loved ones. Music was his other passion, spending hours listening to his favorite artists.
Dale proudly served on the Davenport Fire Department for 22 years, retiring in 1979.
Dale is survived by his children, Dennis (Patricia), Mary, Dawn, David (Colleen), Dallas (Kim); grandchildren Tony, David, Jason, Jeremy, Dutch, and Jeff, and many great-grand children. He was such a character, and will be sorely missed by all.
