Carrol Jerome Rake, 90, of Davenport, went home to the Lord on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Davenport. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM.at the National Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School. Carrol was born May 25, 1920 in Rake, IA, the son of Johnnie and Clara (Olson) Rake. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Liberty Lutheran Church in Rake. He married Barbara R. Good on October 20, 1956 in Waterloo, IA. She passed away October 1, 2009.
He attended Luther College in Decorah, IA, until he was called to serve in the United States Army. He was a combat veteran and attained the rank of sergeant. Following his military service he completed his education at the University of Iowa graduating in 1948.
He was employed by BF Goodrich Company in Marshalltown, IA and later retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as a supervisory budget analyst.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; Quad City Times Plus 60 Club; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; Springbrook Country Club, DeWitt, IA; and Wapsi Oaks Country Club, Calamus, IA. He was an avid golfer who was especially proud of the three holes in one he shot in his retirement years. Being a talented woodworker he made over 100 three dimensional wooden crosses that he gave to friends and family.
His survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Tim Doner, Davenport; his beloved granddaughter, Alexandra; sister, Opal Geisz, DeBary, FL; and brother, Orvis Rake, Albert Lea, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Arlene Osborne.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at Davenport Good Samaritan Center for the loving care Carrol received while a resident there.
