Betty was born on June 18, 1925 in Burlington, IA to Beulah (Wilson) and Willie Alfred. Upon graduation from high school, Betty joined the workforce. She worked a variety of jobs, including working for the FBI, Crescent Cleaners, and eventually John Hancock Insurance where she spent 18 years.
On March 16, 1945, Betty married Robert Reese Thomas and they stayed together until his passing in 1985. Betty’s passions in life included many things; some of which we won’t mention here. One of her most cherished passions was rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Whether it be basketball, football, or wrestling, Betty was there to cheer them on. She made a point to dress in Black and Gold every Saturday and was elated when she got to support the Hawkeyes in the Rose Bowl. When the grandkids came along, she loved to support them in their sports and activities. In her spare time, she also enjoyed walking at the mall and staying sharp with water aerobics.
In her later years, she moved in to Senior Star, where she became an ambassador. She found joy in helping others settle into their new living quarters and loved the community. Her bright presence will be missed.
Survivors include her son, Ronald (Cathy) Thomas; daughter, Linda (Gerald) Suhr; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Marica (Marvin) Fraise.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, and her son, Mark Thomas.
