Age 86, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital on November 2, 2014. Born on October 24, 1928 in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Daniel and Viola (Murray) Logan. He was pre-deceased by his eldest brother Tom (Lee) and is survived by his brother Norm (Jo), Lansdowne, Thousand Islands, Ontario and sister Edith (Bill) McCosh, London, Ontario. He was the owner of Claude W. Vincent tailoring in Dartmouth and had previously, and proudly, worked for the Ford Motor Company in Halifax. While in high school he played senior hockey as a star goaltender with the New Glasgow Bombers and Pictou Maripacs in the 1940s. Hockey was his passion as a player, administrator and fan. He coached and managed hockey in Dartmouth and served on the executive of the Dartmouth Fuel Kids Junior A Team. Ever the optimist, he never gave up on the Maple Leafs. He was active in the community volunteering with Rotary, Kiwanis, the Austenville Owls Clubs and amateur sport. He was a member of the Dartmouth Curling Club and Brightwood Golf and Country Club. He was also a major contributor to the sport of canoeing, serving as the President of the Banook Canoe Club and then the Flag Officer of the Atlantic Division of the Canadian Canoe Association. Later in life it thrilled him to watch all his grandchildren participate in their various sporting activities. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doreen (Vincent), Dartmouth; son Scott (Coleen), Waverley; daughter Jan Richards (Dwight), Dartmouth; and his much loved grand children Jillian, Mackenzie and Logan Richards and Quinn and Alex Logan; and by numerous nieces and nephews as well as other extended family and friends in Canada and the U.S. Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 5 from 2-4 and 7-9pm and a memorial service will be 2pm Thursday November 6, both from A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Reception to follow the service.
