Muriel Helen (Gates) Eisener passed away peacefully in her sleep, April 30, 2023, at Parkland at the Lakes II. She was born in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, on December 14, 1934 to the late Lawrence and Helen(Patten) Gates. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Douglas Eisener, her brothers, Clayton, Arthur, David, sister, Evelyn (Hare), brother-in-law, Paul Hare, sister-in-law Katie Gates, and nephew Peter Hare.
Growing up as the daughter of an RCMP Officer she moved throughout Cape Breton before settling in Dartmouth where she graduated from Greenvale School and Halifax Vocational School. After finishing Vocational School, she went to work at Eatons in Halifax for a number of years.
On October 24, 1959, she married Douglas Eisener and together they raised two daughters, Lori and Tracey, and successfully ran Eisener’s Poultry Farm in Woodlawn, later moving it to Cole Harbour.
Mom was very athletic throughout her life and enjoyed various sports. She paddled at Banook Canoe Club for many years and served as secretary of the Maritime Division of the Canadian Canoe Association. Mom learned to ride and owned several horses, loved to garden, and was a member of the Dartmouth Curling Club, competing in various bonspiels. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her lady’s group, was a long-standing member of the Woodlawn United Church Choir and made life long friends at the Woodlawn Couples Club. Mom and Dad enjoyed square dancing, loved to square dance and travel, exploring various places in Europe, the Caribbean and throughout North America.
She is survived by her daughters, Lori Eisener, Tracey Eisener (Lara), grandson, Alexander Eisener-Mallett, sisters-in-law, Francine Gates, Patricia Gates, Eileen Eisener and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held May 16, 2023 from 6 - 9 pm at Mattatall’s Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Cremation has taken place. A private family internment will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2023 at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local charity of your choice.
