
MacKenzie, Harvey Joseph – 91 of Dartmouth died peacefully in the Parkstone Enhanced Care, Clayton Park on December 29, 2014. Harvey was born May 31, 1923 in L’Ardoise CB to parents Seymour and Mary (Martell) MacKenzie. He received most of his education in the Dartmouth public school system and went to work at Shearwater Naval Base where he retired as a Federal Government Employee after many years of faithful service. He was known to be a very kind and generous man, an immaculate dresser and was seen at all the local boxing matches that feature notable boxers as Kid Howard, Buddy Daye and Percy Paris looking spiffy and smoking his large cigars. He married the love of his life Vivian Mac Quarrie in 1974 and they spent many happy years together until illness struck both of them. He is survived by his brothers Kenneth and Stanley (Delores); niece Brenda (Simone); nephew Gary (Carol). He was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife Vivian; brothers Austin and Walter and sister Leona. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11am Monday January 5, 2014 in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home 217 Portland Street Dartmouth. Reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date in the family burial site in Queens County. Family flowers only, donations may be to the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia on Harvey’s behalf is so desired.
