THOMPSON, George Henry Sr. - November 25, 1949 – May 24, 2023. With heavy hearts, we announce that George Henry Thompson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Halifax, he was the youngest son of the late Charles and Alma (Brushette) Thompson. Survived by his children, Charles (Elsie), Kenny, George (Angela), and Dorothy; grandchildren, Dakota, Carter, Ethan, and Evelyn; his sister, Shirley (Paul). He is predeceased by his parents, wife, Judy, siblings, Gloria, and Kenneth. George spent his life surrounded by lots of family and made plenty of friends wherever he went as he wasn’t shy to strike up a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed going for coffee at the local Tims and sharing stories of his youth on Kline Street, working at the Oxford Theatre and the grain mill in Halifax. You could often find him watching old western movies and tv shows, and then proceeding to tell you what was going to happen. He met the love of his life, Judy, early in his life and enjoyed building a life and raising their children together. Our family is at peace knowing that dad has been reunited with mom. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday May 31st, 2023 at the A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, from 12:30-2:30pm with interment at the Gate of Heaven cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the QEII Foundation for cancer care and research. A special thank you to Hematology, Palliative Care, MAiD, VON, and Continuing Care for all your care and support over the years and especially over the past few months in managing George’s comfort and end-of-life care.
