GILLIS, David Michael – 62, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at home. Born in Sydney, NS he was the son of the late Daniel and Kathleen Gillis. He was retired from Canada Post after 23 years of service. Growing up in Sydney he was a member of the Sydney Police Boys Club and went on to become a Leader. There he met many of his close lifelong friends. He was a member of The Church of the Sacred Heart in Sydney and served as an alter boy and choir member. He graduated from Sydney Academy '74 and went on to U.C.C.B. He was a carpenter who enjoyed the fine details of his craft and took great pride in his work. He was a free spirit who liked doing things his way living life to the fullest. He loved travelling especially on his motorcycle exploring North America taking the roads less travelled and his annual trip around the Cabot Trail. He loved adventure and enjoyed being surrounded by nature, hiking and camping. He loved his family and friends very much and being with them especially summers at the cottage and Birthday dinners. He is much loved and greatly missed. He will live in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife Christine (Raftus), three step-sons, Vincent, Scott (Shana), Stephen (Amy), six grandchildren, six sisters, Warna (Bill), Patricia (Len), Eileen (Jamie), June (Shane), Kathleen (Rick), Pauline (Art), brother, Douglas, grandchildren, Jessica, Ashlyn, Jaelynn, Mya. Ivy, Brody, many nieces and nephews, great nephews and a great niece. He was predeceased by brother, Daniel “Dan”. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9pm on Tuesday, October 23, with a Celebration of Life service at 11 am on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 both in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
