It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Catherine Margaret Rainer on November 14th in her room at Glasgow Hall in Dartmouth.
Born on August 14, 1928 in Aldershot, England, she was the daughter of Peter and Catherine "Kitty" Kelly. Her mother would remark that Catherine's "gift of gab" came from being born shortly after the first "talkie" motion picture debuted.
Catherine spent her early years living throughout England, India, and Scotland as her family followed her father's Army postings before and through World War II. After the War, Catherine met her future husband Vernon "Chuck" Rainer and they married in 1948. Catherine would call Dartmouth home from 1951 until her passing.
Catherine was proud to have had a 30 year career with the Government of Canada, most prominently with the Coast Guard.
Catherine loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She made trips twice a year to Scotland to visit her mother, brothers and extended family until after her mother's passing. She also found a special bond with her children and grandchildren through taking up the game of golf, which she started playing at age 60. Not the furthest hitter, Catherine was always proud of her short game and her pace of play.
Catherine is survived by her son Michael Rainer (Elaine), son-in-law Bruce Carr, grandchildren Peter Carr (Charlene) and Robert Carr (Dawn) and her four great-grandchildren Liam, Zora, Ben, and Talia. Catherine was predeceased by her mother Catherine "Kitty" Kelly, father Peter Kelly, brothers Thomas Kelly and Peter Kelly, husband Vernon Rainer, and daughter Nancy Carr.
Whether you knew her as Catherine, Irene, Mother, Gram, or GG, she will be greatly missed.
