Bernadine Margaret Smith

Smith, Bernadine Margaret “Bernie” age 93, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home July 1, 2015. Born in La Riviere, Manitoba, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Violet (Meades) Stuart. She was a kind, gentle and generous person who’s enduring positive attitude was an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved golf, gardening, antiques, nature and was an accomplished artist (painting). While serving as a nurse in the RCAF during WWII she met the love of her life Richard Frederick (Smitty) Smith .Two were married in Winnipeg Manitoba on April 12th, 1945. They lived in Montreal and Winnipeg before finally settling in Halifax. Her final years were lived happily under the loving and safe care of his daughter in law Donna. She is survived by her daughter Shirley, son Raymond (Donna), sister Violet, brother Russell, grandchildren Bradley, Scott and Michael (Shirley), Sarah and Shane (Raymond) . She was predeceased by her husband Richard, sister Shirley and brother Melvin. Her family wishes to thank all those that gave support during the last few months, Department of Veteran’s Affairs , the VON, Bayshore Home Care and the staff of Palliative Care. We could not have fulfilled her wish of passing at home without their amazing work. Private family interment at a later date.
