BURDOCK, Barbara Marion - 92, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully with family members present, on November 26th, 2020. She is predeceased by her twin sister Margaret (Penney), twin sisters Dorothy (Bennett) and Dallas (Rose) and her loving husband Launce. Barb leaves behind her children John (Shirley Ann), Bruce (Lynn), Peter (Stephanie) and Joanne (Sheldon), her grandchildren Tracey (Jeff), Launce, Eric (Tara), Bruce, Nick, Sean (Shannon), Evan (Amy), Alex (Jess), Jack and her great grandson Parker. She was born in Middle Bight (Kelligrews), Newfoundland August 7, 1928 and started raising a family in St. John's before settling in Dartmouth, NS. She worked for TCA and Air Canada, taking time off to raise her family before returning to work at the Halifax International Airport until she retired in 1991. After her retirement, Barb returned to the airport with Launce where they both volunteered for 10 years with the Tartan Team welcoming travelers to Nova Scotia in their usual joyful and friendly Newfoundland way. Mom was the most welcoming and caring parent anyone could hope for. She always put the needs of others before herself. She would not sit or rest before everyone was taken care of first, which often left Mom to fall asleep on the sofa with her late-night cup of tea still in her hand (never spilling a drop). She was good natured, full of laughter and joy, and always happy. Our front door was always open to family, friends and travelers who needed a warm place to visit or stay, even though most knew to come in through to the back door right into the heart of our home, the kitchen. There was always room for an extra plate on the table, always a warm pot of tea on the stove, and always treats in the cupboards (tomato soup cake and ginger snaps to name but a few). A guest book was even kept by the front door just to keep track of everyone who dropped by. She kept our home happy, warm and entertaining, from weekend Canasta games with Mary and Roy Dickson (our adopted Aunt and Uncle) to Christmas Eve feasts for the neighbourhood. Growing up probably every one of our childhood friends stayed for meals on more than one occasion! Mom always had time to listen and be present, she treated everyone as family and was full of energy, life and love. Her favourite colour was yellow and it was found throughout her life (and in her clothes which complimented her beautiful blue eyes). Her grandkids loved her diminutive stature when it came time for her many hugs! It is with very sad and heavy hearts that we say our good-byes to such a beautifully spirited soul who always had a smile on her face and a song in her heart. May she forever be dancing with Dad. Our family would like to thank all the staff at Shannex Bissett Court in Dartmouth for the quality of care and compassion they gave to both of our parents in their final years. They were always kind and so giving in the way they cared for Mom and Dad, which truly made their time there feel like they were home. You are special people for who you are, what you do and how you treat people. You were Mom and Dad’s front line support and their friends. Your work was challenging before recent events and made even more so in just this past year but we have seen how you responded and how you have continued to care for all of your residents, and for that we appreciate and thank you. Mom was always a very happy person with a smile on her face and sparkle in her eyes and because of your care and support you helped Mom keep that to the very end. You became a part of our family and for all you have done we say thank you so very much. At this time, due to recent restrictions, we will not be able to hold a service.
