MacLennan, Alexander Charles “Alex”- 93 of Dartmouth, passed away June 11, 2010 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in North Sydney he was the son of the late Murdock N. and Lettie J. (Mathews) MacLennan. He worked with his father in the family grocery business, M.N. MacLennan Grocery Store, then for many years in management for Canada Packers. In later years he worked with his wife, owning and operating the Yarn Barn, Scotia Square, until retiring in 1984. Alex is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Sarah Katherine (MacGregor); daughter Charlotte (David) MacLean, Dartmouth; grandchildren Allison, Gregor (Sarah), Megan (Eric); great-grandchildren Olivia and Chelsea; daughter Faith (Bruce) Muench, Dartmouth; grandchildren Sandy, Heidi, Amy, Melissa and Jessica; great-grandchildren Shardai and Renee; special niece Willa (Ross) Dean-Norman and nephew Hugh (Sandra) Campbell. He was predeceased by his brother Gordon, sisters Mildred and Annie and granddaughter Tracey. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday, June 15 at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wed. June 16 at St. David’s Presbyterian Church,Halifax, Rev. Dr. P.A. Sandy McDonald officiating. Interment at a later date in church cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. David’s Presbyterian Church, N.S. Lung Association or a charity of choice.
