So sorry for your loss. Mr. Nick was one of a kind.
He would often stop by to  tell stories. Always had me laughing. He will be missed.

I was very sorry to hear about Nick. He was always very good to me.  I will always have many memories from our kart racing years.   May your memories keep Nick close to your hearts.

I met Nick & his son Willy when I started racing karts around 1982. At the end of my first year of Kart racing I decided to go to Daytona to race at Memorial Stadium. Loaded up my Van with my kart tools & spares (there wasn’t much) left at Midnight of Christmas Eve. I had the wrong everything for what we were competing in & crashed pretty hard in my qualifying heat. Got everything back to our pit and turned around to see Nick & Willy standing there. Nick said “You guys are in way over your head you know!” I responded “well yeah!.” 
They helped us bend the mangled front end parts back as best we could (no one had spares) I went out for the feature and managed about 10th. Amazing.
We raced against each other on our little circuit here: Nutmeg, Norwalk, Wilton. Willy & I always seemed to be in the same class competing with each other. We  could run each other hard, even lean on each other, but gave respect. Nick was always willing to help and give advice.

Around 1985 or so a new track opened up in Poughkeepsie NY. They had a new class that utilized a tillotson carb called “Super Stock.” 
I went for a practice day, with my new carb and it just wouldn’t run. Nick took my carb apart  about 10x and by the end of the day it was running ok. 
During the week I ordered a carb from the best guy down south & installed it, as there was a big Regional race at Poughkeepsie the next week. The new carb was a rocket, I sat on the pole & won the race with Willy alongside on the last lap about 1/2 kart back. 
Nick was furious as he thought he had been beaten by his own handiwork. I didn’t tell him about the other carb for about a year! 😆 

I always enjoyed talking to and racing with Nick & Willy. When you beat them you had beaten the best, and they were always willing to help! 

RIP Nick- My Condolences to the Nickerson Family. I am sure he will be greatly missed. 

I knew Nick  for over 60 years He was one of the best auto-race car and auto body technicians I ever knew he was a great guy .He would come to my dads texaco station with his race car.He helped my dad out many times my dad thought the world of him and let him have full use of the bays He built the engine for my ford coupe and never took a penny My sincere sympathy goes out to his family he was one of  best Bob Selleck New Milford ct

Mr. Nick was a very smart, wise, honest, hard working man, a friend. Was more of a father figure to me than my own father. I learned a lot of good things from him related to racing and life. Semper Fi Marine. You will be missed by many.

On the way to Bethel NY for a race Mr. Nick told Willy and I a story about allergies. Every time we went to the Bethel NY track we drove by a area that caused Willy and I to get a stuffy nose. Nick said he had the same problem until he found the bush that was casing the congestion and rolled in it. He said he was sick as a dog after rolling in the bush for about a week but never got allergies again. Funny as heck the way he told the story. It He will be missed by many.

It was great to watch him kick all the young guy’s butt’s as he went from the back of the pack to win a feature race at the age of 65.

Visitation

Winton is preceded in death by his father and mother, Edmond Nickerson and Renee Nickerson; and also a son, Howard Cray.


Winton is survived by his wife Beverly Ann (Drury) Nickerson


Also survived by 5 sons and 2 daughters: Robin, William, Anthony, Wilton, Allen and Cheryl


Over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren
