William A. Farrell, long time resident of Danbury, died on June 26, 2011 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his devoted family after a long & courageous battle with Cancer. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by Jo Ann Stine Farrell, his wife and best friend of 44 years. His daughter Laura Halas and her husband Michael of Danbury, sons Michael and his wife Kelly of New Fairfield, and Brian and his wife Nina of Danbury. He was also a wonderful and cherished “POPPY” to his nine grandchildren Michael, Madison & Emma Halas, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Michael & Sydney Farrell and Jake & Matthew Farrell.
Bill was born in Astoria, New York on Sept. 28, 1939 son of the late William J and Anne O’Connor Farrell. He was also pre-deceased by his sister Joan Botelho. Bill moved to New Fairfield, CT in 1955 and attended Henry Abbott Tech. He worked at Castro Convertible for a number of years, leaving to work for the Federal Correctional Institute in Danbury for 20 years where he was known as “Broadway Bill”. He retired as a counselor in 1990. Upon his retirement from FCI he went to work for Lathrop Septic for 13 years. He also worked as a bartender for many years at the Amber Room, Embassy Room and Ridgewood Country Club.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus McGivney Council #29 and AARP Chapter 1067 Danbury, CT. He enjoyed going to the many sporting events of his grandchildren and the trips taken with his wife and friends. Bill was an avid New York Giant and Mets fan.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main St., Danbury on Wednesday from 4 00 to 8 00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday 11 00 am at St Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.
