Timothy Hyde Mathewson

Timothy Hyde Mathewson, 75, of Danbury, CT, beloved husband of Noelle, loving dad of Kimberly and Kerry, and proud papa/grandpa to his grandchildren, went to his Heavenly home on November 10, 2021. After a 21-year courageous and graciously fought battle with metastatic renal cell cancer, Tim is now at peace with Jesus; his greatest desire before passing was to bring more people to the Lord through his Celebration of Life service.

Tim was born in Milwaukee, WI, to Lester and June Mathewson on May 15, 1946. He grew up in Lannon, WI, and for a short time lived in Appleton, WI. He married Noelle Knobe on September 7, 1968, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Menomonee Falls, WI. Tim graduated from Menomonee Falls High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He had a fulfilling 35-year career at The Dow Chemical Company. As a young engineer in Midland, MI, and Gales Ferry, CT, Tim managed chemical plants, and later transitioned into Training and Quality in Walnut Creek, CA, and then Organizational Effectiveness as an internal consultant in Midland, MI. His final assignment was in Danbury, CT helping Union Carbide assimilate into Dow.

Tim was a gentle giant of a man filled with faith, character, and wisdom; in his life, he put God and family first. As a member of Walnut Hill Community Church, he served as an Elder, chaired both Local and Global Outreach, and was very involved in mentoring couples through the Marriage Ministry. Tim and Noelle were a team and loved serving together.

As much as Tim enjoyed serving at church and in the community, his primary mission was his family. Married to his best friend for 53 years, Tim led his family and continually demonstrated his commitment to Godly values regardless of the situation. Always encouraging, loving, and extremely generous with his time, he coached daughters, Kimberly and Kerry’s sports teams, tutored through hard homework assignments, and supported a myriad of science projects. The consummate family man, Tim’s favorite pastimes centered around camping, boating, hiking, back-roading, and biking with his family. Time spent encouraging Noelle, Kimberly, and Kerry’s endeavors were favorites for Tim and are priceless reminders now that Tim spelled LOVE for his family in TIME!

Tim used his considerable talents to benefit his community. He was a humble man of wisdom whose advice was sought by many. Friendly and unpretentious, Tim loved to lend a tool to a neighbor in need. He mentored several young men, served on the Jericho Pathways Board, chaired the Danbury Civil Service Commission, and with Noelle co-directed two Share Fests that brought the churches of Danbury together to address the city’s greatest needs.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Lester & June Mathewson, sister and brother-in-law, Rae & John Mangos, and grandnephew, Jonathon Matthews.

Tim is survived by his wife Noelle, precious daughters Kimberly (Bill) Withers, Kerry (Scott) Stiegler, and dear grandchildren: Brendan, Kyle, and Katelyn Nussbaum, Everett and Graham Stiegler, and step-grandson Tyler Withers, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Warner and Diane Knobe, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many very special friends.

A celebration of Tim’s life will take place on November 22, 2021, at 4 PM at Walnut Hill Community Church in Bethel, CT. The family requests that you wear a face mask to the service to ensure the health and safety of all. The service will also be live-streamed. Arrangements are by the Green Funeral Home in Danbury, CT.
