Thelma Ann (Deitz) Hill, 88, of New Milford, CT passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at New Milford Hospital with her husband and family at her side. She was the wife of Francis E. Hill. Born in Danbury, CT, Thelma was the youngest child of the late Jacob and Mary Lubinska Deitz. She was a 1939 graduate of Sacred Heart School in Danbury. Thelma was a graduate of Danbury High School class of 1943, where she was elected "Class Baby" due to her tiny size.
Thelma was a former employee of the Neuman-Endler Hat Factory and the Frank H. Lee Hat Factory in Danbury. She was most recently an electronics assembler with Branson Sonic Electronics, National Semiconductor and Arrowhead Electronics. At an early age, Thelma learned and loved to swim and dive. She was a spectacular diver and won many first place awards with the Wildman's Landing Swim Team on Candlewood Lake.
Thelma was 15 and Fran was 18 when they met and fell in love in 1941. Due to WWII and Fran's Navy service, they did not marry till 1948. They ultimately moved to New Milford on Candlewood Lake, where Thelma could continue her love of swimming. Thelma enjoyed gardening taking pride in her beautiful flowers and also a fantastic cook. She was also a "good fisherman" and usually out-fished Fran. Life was very enjoyable and Thelma enjoyed making everyone happy. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Church in Danbury. Tragedy struck in 2008 when Thelma became an Alzheimer's victim confined to the Village Crest Center for Health and Rehabilitation in New Milford.
Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her siblings: Louise Torcaso, Catherine "Katie" Deitz, Mary Zenobia, Ann Balash, Sophie Muelfeld, Mildred Derbin, Matthew Deitz, John Deitz and Donald Deitz. Besides her husband, Thelma is survived by her niece, Theresa Guertin and her husband, Gil, and their children: Art and his wife, Mei, Brian, Rick, Gil, Jr., and Rena. Her nephew, Donald Deitz and his children: Eric and Beth. Her nieces: Mary Ann Zenobia, Marjorie Miller and Linda Zenobia. Her nephew, Frank Zenobia and his wife, Judy. Her niece, Patricia James and her husband, Ray, and their son, Ray, III. Her niece, Thelma Green and her husband, Roger, and their children: Jason and Kelli. And her niece, Dawn Arnold.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. Friends will be received on Monday from 5pm to 8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thelma's memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 12 Cottage St., Danbury, CT 06810 or to the Alzheimer's Association of CT, Suite 100, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
