Ruth Rodriguez

On October 15, 1924 Ramon Luis Toro and Felicita Olivera-Batiz Toro welcomed their first-born daughter, Ruth, into the world. She was the younger sister of her half brother, Gustavo Mas and the oldest of her other siblings, Raymond Louis Toro, David Ray, Dorothy Toro Brown and Anthony Torres. Ruth attended PS 32 and graduated from Girls’ High in Brooklyn where she was voted Class Artist by her fellow classmates.

She married Anthony (Tony) Rodriguez and they had two children, Ruth Elizabeth (Spring) and David Paul. Together with some others, she and Tony began a Spanish church in their apartment which grew and became an established church in Brooklyn. Ruth enjoyed playing the piano in various churches for over 60 years.

Ruth loved working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and recalls the emotions she and her co-workers felt while they watched, from her office window, the young servicemen leaving on the battleships as they headed out to war. She also enjoyed the years she worked as an Office Manager and executive secretary for Superite, Inc. in Syosset, NY and then many years before retiring from the NY Motor Vehicle Bureau in Bay Shore, NY.

She was predeceased by her four brothers and her son.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Brown; her daughter, Ruth Spring; her grandchildren: Jenelle Scanlon, John Spring, Mandy Walker, Angi Wilson, Carrie Haren and Jeanne Beery, as well as 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She loved her family so well, was thankful for her friends and most of all she loved her Savior Jesus Christ whom she is worshipping face to face forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ridgefield Baptist Church, 325 Danbury Rd., Ridgefield, CT on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11 AM.
