Nancy was born on October 21, 1940 at Danbury Hospital. She was adopted by Lloyd and Violett Schlough and raised in Danbury, CT. After graduating from Danbury High School in 1958, she went on to work at GoodFellow-Ashmore. In 1958 she also met Albano and after a year-long courtship they wed in 1959. She then dedicated the next many years of her life to raising her four sons – Chris, David, Gary, and Kevin (and also the family dog Dusty). As a stay-at-home mom, she worked a number of part time jobs for a little extra spending money for the family or for the things she loved. After she raised her sons, she went back to the workforce, part time at William Raveis and then full time at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. She worked the rest of her career at Boehringer, starting as a receptionist and retiring in 2008 as the regional archive specialist after 25 years of service at the company.
Nancy was a passionate DIY designer and shopper - she loved to find – or create – a great bargain. She could also design on a dime. She loved to decorate for the holidays – especially Christmas – and so tastefully decorated every part of our home. She made Christmas special for all of us. She also loved to cook and bake, one of our favorites was her Christmas cookies. She loved to spend summers at the family’s place at the Jersey shore (Cape May Courthouse) where she relaxed, read, spent time with family and friends, and enjoyed the beach. She was a great friend to so many, always taking the time to reach out with a call or a personal note whether it was a birthday or if someone was going through a tough time – she touched so many lives. Nancy was the heart and soul of the Gouveia family and always put friends and family first. She was so proud of and loved to talk about her kids and grandkids. We will always remember her bright smile, selfless generosity, and warm heart.
Nancy is survived by her husband Albano of 63 years, her four sons and their wives – Christopher and Tiffany Gouveia of Newington, CT and their children, Kendra, Cam, and Sam, David and Jennifer Gouveia of Raleigh, NC and their children, Tommy, Joey, Jon, and Ally, Gary and Kristin Gouveia of New Fairfield, CT and their children Jake, Sydney, and Carys, and Kevin and Megan Gouveia of New Milford, CT and their children Dylan, Brendan, and Margaret.
