She was born in Decollatura, Italy on October 1, 1929 to the late Giovanni Cerra and Maria Teresa (Molinaro) Cerra. Widowed at the young age of 32 with 3 small children, she immigrated to the United States to make a better life for her children. She worked tirelessly to provide for her 3 children and was proud that all three were college graduates. She loved her new country and humbly appreciated what it allowed her to accomplish. She had an uncompromisable honest personality which she instilled in her children. She was a long time worker at the Barden Corporation and was known as a loyal worker and friends to many
She was affectionately called “nonna” by her grandchildren which were her whole world. She enjoyed cooking her incredible Italian food and was known to make the best spaghetti sauce in America. Other Italian kids would find a reason to visit her just so they could eat her pasta and meatballs. She loved planting flowers and grow a vegetable garden. She was a devout Traditional Catholic and practiced her faith every day.
She leaves behind 3 children. Teresa Costanzo of Danbury whom she made her home, Fernando Costanzo and wife Rosa (Ribas) of Davie, FL and Alida Costanzo- Iassogna and husband Keith of New Fairfield. 4 grandchildren, Angelica Costanzo, Alexandria Costanzo Roback, Maximillian Costanzo, and Alexander Iassogna. One nephew Carlo Cerra and 3 nieces; Carla Cerra, Cathy Cerra Hervieux and Gina Petrick.
She was predeceased by her husband, Giovannino Costanzo who was killed in a tragic accident, brothers Gino Cerra and Frank Cerra.
Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, 25 Pepper St. Monroe, CT at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday January 28, 2017. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. Danbury, CT on Friday evening January 27th, between the hours of 4-7 p.m.
