Lola Maria Hannah will forever be known and loved for her courage, her ability to draw others to her and a smile that easily lit up a room. And yet she had the reputation of being “the strongest women I have met” by many who came to you know her. Lola was a survivor of breast cancer for 25 years who learned to deal with and thrive with the disease. Living life to the fullest became her goal.
Loving wife to Tom for 52 years and caring mother to her three children, Thomas Christian and his spouse Nicole, Kim Elizabeth DeMarco and her spouse Timothy and Michael Damien and his spouse Michelle. Lola will always hold in her heart her five grandchildren. She was known as grandma to Cole age 19, Gamma To Zachary and Hannah DeMarco ages 17 and 15, and Baba to Kayden age 10 and Ella age 7.
A multi-faceted woman who taught at the Consolidated School and then went to become the Teacher/Owner/Director of the Christian Day Nursery School, providing preschool and daycare services for over 32 years. Her teaching skills, her love for her students, her spontaneity, effervescence and her innate ability to connect with both student and parent made Christian day and attractive option for so many families. Lola loved her students and they knew it. And they loved “Mrs. Hannah”. Many of them would write years later from high school and college to say that she made a difference in their lives.
At Ann’s Place she gave of herself to many who were diagnosed with breast cancer. She would mentor, lead groups, raise money and awareness of the many free services provided by the organization to survivors and families. As a mentor, she was able to support, affirm, encourage and most of all offer hope.
Those who knew Lola or met her for the first time were touched and moved by this dynamic and beloved woman. Wherever she went she made friends and lasting ones at that. Lola so loves her dear friends in the “Wonderful Wacky Woman’s Sister Hood”. Infectious laughter and “Mexican train” were their main passions. Thursday mornings were often saved for the "Bible Study", A diverse group of women of different Christian denominations who met to pray, to learn and to enjoy each other‘s company. Lola was “smitten“ by the relationships among the women in the wisdom shared with in the group.
