Joan S. O'Connor

Joan S. O'Connor, age 88, of Brookfield, CT, died peacefully Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Regional Hospice and Palliative Care in Danbury, CT. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. O’Connor to whom she was married for 57 years.

Born in the summer of 1929 in The Bronx, NY, Mrs. O'Connor lived in Brookfield, CT most of her life. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Ursula High School and received her BA degree from The College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY in 1951.

Joan was an elementary school teacher in New York for several years followed by a very successful career in real estate for 45 years winning many awards for outstanding sales performance with R.K Gallo & Associates, Prudential Connecticut Realty, William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty and most recently, Berkshire Hathaway.

Joan was a talented athlete, an adventurous travel companion, a die-hard NY Giants fan, a deft bridge player and a Broadway and Metropolitan Opera enthusiast. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her 5 beloved daughters and 7 grandchildren at the Candlewood Shores Beach and hosting holiday dinners in her home.

Joan is survived by daughter, Cecile O'Connor, of Silver Spring, MD; daughter, Sheila, and her husband, James Kuhn, and their children, Sean, Caitlin and Conor Kuhn of Danbury, CT; daughter, Debra, and her husband, Kevin, and their children Michelle and Patrick Cully of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Denise of Brookfield, CT; daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Glenn Berger, and their children, Maya and Ethan Berger of Ossining, NY. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Sheehey and family of Jupiter, FL, and her brother Daniel P. Sweeney and family of Osprey, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 16 at 10:00am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 138 Candlewood Lake Rd, Brookfield, CT 06804.

Friends will be received at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT on Friday September 15 from 4pm-7pm.

Interment will be in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, NY at the convenience of the family.
