Bob was born in Carmel, NY on October 29, 1944 to the late Jesse and Mildred Cole Knapp. He attended grammar school in Patterson and high school in Carmel, NY. Bob earned his teaching degree from Western Connecticut State University. He taught at Somers Middle School and eventually found his calling in retail management initially at Ken’s Hardware in New Fairfield, CT and then at Ridgefield Hardware in Ridgefield, CT. He retired from Home Depot in 2014.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and brother, Gary and his two pugs, Cricket and Pudge. Bob is survived by his long-time companion and love, Barbara Reisinger of Danbury, CT and her family, Kris and Scott March and Kim and Larry DeMeo. Bob looked upon Barbara’s grandchildren, Brenden and Nicholas March and Lucy, Rudy, and Caroline DeMeo as his own and was Godfather to Nicholas. He often joked about how he enjoyed the happiness of graduations, weddings and births without having to do the hard work of parenting.
Bob enjoyed traveling and fine dining. He was an avid gardener who especially loved experimenting with different types of hosta. Bob also enjoyed cooking and baking and usually had dinner ready when Barbara got home from work. Cleaning up was a different story. Bob was a man who told it like it is, had a great laugh and a kind heart.
Due to Covid restrictions, there will be a private service on Tuesday, December 22nd and burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY on December 23rd.
