Irene was born April 24, 1920 in Shawnee, Kansas to Joseph and Amalia (Ahrens) Geysels. She was a graduate of Shawnee Mission Rural H.S. She married Francis Marion Gardner of Kansas City MO on Jan. 14, 1951.
Irene was a cafeteria worker at Hillcrest Junior High in Overland Park, KS for 20 years until retirement. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Shawnee, KS and then Ridgefield Baptist Church in Ridgefield, CT when she moved to Danbury to be near family.
Irene is predeceased by her beloved husband of 27 years, by an infant son, Jeffrey, by a sister and brother-in-law, Marvin and Lucille Stempel, and by her brother-in-law Wilbur Zipp. She is survived by her daughter Penny Grecni, son-in-law Jim, her precious granddaughters Julie and Michelle and her sister Virginia Zipp. She leaves behind her nieces Debbie Zipp (Michael Horton), Jan (Phil) Wood, Karen (John) Jacobsen, and a nephew, Cary (Irma) Zipp and their families.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Danbury Hospital in the stroke unit and at Laurel Ridge Health Care Center for their tender care of Irene.
Friends will be received at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Saturday, from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Because of her interest in medical missions, memorial gifts may be sent to Ridgefield Baptist Church, 325 Danbury Road, Ridgefield, CT 06877 for international missions.
