Charles Daniel Coakley, 90 of Danbury CT. loving husband of 54yrs. to the late Hilda (Willis) Coakley, went to be with the Lord on November 13 2012. He was born in Easton Pa on April 14 1922, son of the late Charles B. and Elizabeth Coakley, and late brother Thomas Coakley.
He graduated from Temple University, and then enlisted in the Navy and proudly served his Country as a Navy pilot in WWII. He was recognized by the State of CT. and awarded a medal for his wartime service and sacrifice. He was an accountant for 40 years at the James River Company formally the American Can Co., was an active member, and secretary for the Georgetown Ct. VFW Post 10190. During his retirement Charlie enjoyed golfing, bowling, and boating on Candlewood Lake. He loved celebrating all of the holidays, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and loved playing the piano and singing for his family.
He was a loving father and grandfather and will greatly be missed by his 5 children Carolyn Barrett of Ridgefield, Peggy Spakowski and husband David of Naugatuck, Kathleen Williamson and husband Gary of Danbury, Charles M. Coakley and wife Lynn of Danbury, and Mary Beltran and husband Edward, of Gold River CA, and 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. Danbury, Tuesday 5-8pm.Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danbury on Wednesday morning at 10 am.Christian burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery.
