Woodfin Cullum Henderson, known throughout his life as Woody, was born on July 15, 1940, in Dallas, Texas. With his brother Walter and sister Betsy, he attended Highland Park HS and SMU where he was a proud member Phi Gamma Delta. He earned his J.D. from the SMU Dedman School of Law and had a very successful practice, earning the privilege to present a case before the Supreme Court of the United States. He was an avid traveler, golfer and pilot who loved the outdoors and wildlife; he sought out adventure wherever he could find it. One of his favorite capers included spending a month living off the land in the Northwest Territories in Canada. He served as President and Historian of the Ferndale Fishing Club, near Pittsburg, Texas. Ultimately, he served as Chief Ranch Hand of Josephine Beard's equine herd. Jo Beard was the love of his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother Martha Cullum Henderson and his sister Betsy Walker. He is survived by his two daughters Elizabeth Jenswold and her husband Jonathan and Kathryn (Kate) Scott, his brother Walter Henderson and his wife Janie, his brother-in-law John Walker, two nieces and two nephews and their families known affectionately as "The Mob". Also survived by 6 half-siblings that grew up in Virginia. His memorial service will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home on Northwest Highway at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 16.
