The oldest of eight children, Willie Turner Galimore was born on March 1, 1953, in Haughton, Louisiana to Olar Lee Galimore-Powell and Willie Turner, Sr.
When he was 14 years old, Willie moved to Dallas, Texas, to live with his grandfather, Felix Galimore, Sr., and his aunts Ellen Galimore and Ollie Mae Trunnell.
Willie played the saxophone and received his formal education from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended at Sul Ross State University. He was a bus driver for both DART and Trailways/Greyhound.
Willie loved Aunt Ellen’s cooking, chocolate cake, as well as being around his family and friends. When he had free time, some of Willie’s fondest memories included traveling to Louisiana while listening to one of his favorite music groups, “The Whispers”, on his way to visit family, stop by the casinos, get some Southern Maid donuts and seafood. Willie loves Arby’s and Spring Creek Barbeque with sweet tea.
Willie Turner Galimore passed away peacefully from this life into the arms of Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 17, 2023.
Willie was preceded in death by his mother, Olar Lee Galimore-Powell, father, Willie Turner, Sr., grandfather, Felix Galimore, Sr., aunts, Lillie Mae Galimore and Ollie Mae Trunnell, uncle, Felix Galimore Jr., brothers Randy Lewis and Edward Charles Strather, and son Jonathan Edwards.
Willie Turner Galimore leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Oliver Turner and Willie Turner III (Shelly); three sisters, Mary Ann Bell, Lorraine Smith (Lawrence), and Gracie Strather; two brothers, Tom Strather, Jr. (Linda), and Rickey Strather; aunt, Ellen Galimore (Phil), grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Willie will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Singing Hills Funeral Home, 6221 UNIVERSITY HILLS BLVD, DALLAS, TX 75241. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 6221 UNIVERSITY HILLS BLVD, DALLAS, TX 75241. A committal service will occur Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at External Service Location, 6300 S R L Thornton Fwy, Dallas, TX 75232.
