William (Bill) Thomas Pittman born December 22, 1922 in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana by good pious Catholic parents William and Gertrude Pittman. He passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2020. Bill grew up wanting to be a Priest. He entered the minor Seminary of the Vincentian Fathers after St. Stephen’s Elementary (a Vincentian parish) and then into the Major Seminary. Bill was ordained a priest June 12, 1949. Bill held many important positions in his ministry: a prefect of discipline at the minor Seminary where he also taught Latin and Greek, then later became the Pastor of his hometown parish of St. Stephen’s. There he served the parish while also being Chaplain to De La Salle Boy’s School as well at St. Stephen’s Girl’s school. He also was the Extraordinary Confessor to the Daughters of Charity at the Carville Leper Colony for 12 years. Bill then was assigned to become the Pastor at St. Thomas in Longbeach and began there the day after Hurricane Camille hit and destroyed the church. He helped rebuild the church and community and developed lifelong bonds. Bill then was assigned to be the Pastor at Holy Trinity in Dallas where he celebrated his 30th anniversary of his priesthood.
Bill requested Laicization from the Holy Father which was granted and later married the love of his life Judy Goff. Together they bought and developed three Hallmark stores in Mississippi. Years later, they returned to Dallas where Judy continued her past Real Estate Career and Bill became the Principal of Daytop. They traveled the world and have always been active and close to their parish Holy Trinity. Bill always said he was a very lucky man to have a wonderful family, to be a priest and to marry Judy. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judy Goff Pittman, siblings; Audrey Leroux, Gail Lewis, Judy Hebert and sister-in-law Jane Jordan. He was preceded in death by sister June Sutherland and brother Wayne Pittman. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. All of us will miss his love and wisdom. A private funeral mass and burial was August 27, 2020 and a celebration of Bill’s life will be at a later date. Donations in Bill’s honor can be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Trinity, or The Turtle Creek Conservancy.
