William R. Laughlin

Dr. William Robert (Bob) Laughlin was born in Wichita, Kansas on February 25, 1935. He passed away peacefully on November the 21, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Beth Oliver Laughlin, and his parents, William Malone and Betty Laughlin. He is survived by his three daughters, Lynn Elise Borut, Carol Jean Laughlin, and Janet Ann Berryman. He also enjoyed his role as grandfather to

Charlie Biter, Jennifer Lumpkin, Mary Frances and Emily Berryman. He is also survived

by his sister Barbara and husband Ferol Whaley who live in Fort Worth.

Bob attended Texas Tech University where he received his degree in 1957. By his senior year he was acting president of the senior class and the president of his fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi. He attended the University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine in Dallas and completed a residency in pathology at Baylor University Medical Center. He was drafted and served at the Fourth Army Pathology Laboratory in San Antonio. He practiced at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio for ten years and served as the president of the San Antonio Society of Pathology.

In 1978, he returned to Dallas and worked as a Pathologist at Presbyterian Hospital. He served as the medical director of National Pathology Laboratories. He developed and served as medical director of a national coagulation laboratory Southwest Hemostasis/Oncology Consultants. Bob was a national speaker for medical schools and workshops in coagulation. He was a prolific writer and produced journal articles as well as editing The Journal of Clinical Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis.

Upon retirement in 2005, he studied Theology at SMU Cox School of Business and Perkins School of Theology. Bob taught Sunday school at Highland Park United Methodist Church. He loved traveling and participated in many ski trips over the US, Canada, and Europe with family and friends. He played tournament tennis and enjoyed playing golf with his favorite group, the Dickie Do’s. He will be remembered for his gift of hospitality and witty sense of humor. Dr. Bob was known for his love of family and friends and an abiding love of Jesus Christ.

A celebration of life will be held at the Highland Park United Methodist Church on December the 19th at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Lighthouse for the Blind or a charity of your choice.
