Vernon Lee Nelson affectionately called "Unc" by many close friends, was born March 14, 1934 in Magnolia, Arkansas as V.L. Nelson to the parentage of Will and Vera (Curry) Nelson. Sometime after his father passed away, his mother married Jim Berry, who Vernon affectionately called "Old Man" while growing up in Magnolia. Vernon graduated from Columbia High School in Magnolia, then enlisted in the US Army in April 1, 1953 where her served our country in Korea.
Vernon married Dessie Mae Jones, to this union two children were born-LaRonda and Earnest. He later married Hazel "Strang" Dotsy and his children grew by three-Gwendolyn "Joyce" Moore, Willard Eugene and Bruce Alan Dotsy. Vernon was a harding working man. He moved to Dallas in 1957 with his cousin, Precious Talley looking for better job opportunities. He and his longtime friend Lee Johnson formed Nelson & Johnson Trucking, hauling for Acme Brick for 16 years. In the early 80's, he began his career as an Executive Chauffeur for Carl Westcott of Westcott Cummunications and held that position for over 30 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory a lovng and devoted wife, Hazel, aka, "Strang", two sons; Willard Eugene Dotsy (Deb) of Rowlett, TX., Bruce Dotsy (Thalia) of Lancaster, TX.; two daughters LaRonda Nelson of Los Angeles, CA, Gwendolyn "Joyce" Moore (Ron) of Cedar Hill, TX., Uncle G.W. Warren of Linden, TX. Uncle J.L. Warren (Pauline) of Los Angeles, CA., 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His extended family includes Karen Hammer, Roy&Pam Tell, Tia Garrett, TaSasha Kelly, Gwen Crawford, Geneva Williams, Gwen Smith, Al and Francile McCottry, Acie Tell, Joyce Randalph and LaJuana Lanton.
