Tony Tovar, Sr. 80 was born to Luis and Rosa Tovar in Dallas Texas on October 7, 1934. Tony married Dominga (Nina) Tovar in 1952. They were married for almost 63 years. Tony is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter, Tony Jr., Mike, John Paul and Patricia and their wives and husband. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Tony is survived by six brothers and three sisters, one sister died as a child and another sister has preceded him to heaven.
Serving as pallbearers will be his 6 brothers from oldest to youngest are Joe, Louis, Richard, Thomas, David and Arthur Tovar. The 3 surviving sisters, Eva, Mary Helen and Consuelo were very influential in his life.
He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Grand Advocate in the Order of Alhambra #209. Tony spent the majority of his working career at Supreme Beef and retired as a supervisor. His work ethic is legendary among his family. He later worked as a parking attendant, then a ticketing attendant for Dallas Independent School District where he interacted with old friends and which allowed him to create new friends.
Tony and Nina married at a young age and believed in the power of the family. They believed in getting an education. All four of his children graduated from college and his desire was that his grandchildren and great grandchildren should also get a college education. Tony believed in fair play and enjoyed playing, coaching and watching sports. Tony was selfless in giving his time to family, the church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a great father, wonderful mentor and an example of what a father should be. He not only taught his sons and daughter how to be responsible adults, he taught their friends, numerous nephews and nieces. Being the eldest son in a family of twelve, Tony was a role model to his siblings.
After a courageous battle, Tony succumbed to a combination of Kidney Cancer and Glioblastoma (Brain Tumor).
A celebration of life and recitation of the Rosary Service will be held at Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home, [(214) 327-8291] 10501 Garland Road, Dallas Texas 75218 on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Visitation is at 5:00 PM Rosary is at 7:00 PM.
Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Road, Dallas, Texas 75238 (214) 348-7380 on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Reception will be at the church following the Mass. The Burial will follow the reception at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6000 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas TX 75232 [(214) 371-1336].
