Thomas M. Garland, 96, of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed away at home March 25, 2022. Tom was born June 14, 1925 in Sylvester, Texas to Thomas H. and Helen Garland. He attended Lubbock High School and was called to active duty in October, 1943. He served with honor in the Army's famed Merrill's Marauders in Burma, India and China and received Bronze stars and a Purple Heart.
After World War II, he returned to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech and married his high school sweetheart, Earlene Judd. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
In 1956, Tom began work for the Bureau of Mines in Wichita Falls, Texas. He transferred to Dallas in 1969 to be the Director of the Field Office of the Department of Energy. He retired in 1985 as the Director of the Dallas Field Office of the Bureau of Mines and Department of Energy. After retirement, he formed T & E Garland Inc. and wrote and sold a software program for the petroleum industry.
His interests included travel and computer programming and was an active member of the Dallas Petroleum Engineering Club.
Tom and Earlene raised four children, one daughter and three sons. Tom is survived by Earlene, his loving wife of seventy-five years, his daughter, Brenda and husband Pat , two sons, Tom and wife Kathy, Larry and wife Debbie, grandchildren Patrick, John, Brandon, Jennifer, Tom, Stephanie, and Veronica, and fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, sister, Sue Gettaman and husband Pat. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald.

A visitation for Thomas will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A reception will occur Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A committal service will occur Friday, April 15, 2022 from 2:15 PM to 2:30 PM at Dallas Ft Worth National, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75072.
