He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1929, and grew up in New Britain, CT. A high school and Saint Anselms College basketball star, Cy married his greatest love and high school sweetheart, Lois Dorsey, on August 28, 1954. Cy proudly served in the United States Air Force before starting a family in Minnesota with his beloved. He spent his life supporting the men and women who serve our country.
After raising their children in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Cy and Lois retired to a little slice of paradise in Chatham, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod, starting a fabulous new chapter with a host of cherished friends. Cy spent his final years in Dallas, Texas, bringing great joy to the lives of all who knew him.
Cy Cosgrove was a man of true integrity, humility, and generosity and treasured God and his family above everything. A quintessential Irishman, he was always ready with a joke, a jig or a jingle. To know him was to love him and be loved by him.
Poppie is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Loie. He is survived by his five children: Thomas Cosgrove (Jan), Cathleen Cosgrove, Eileen Zaehringer (Bob), Colleen Watson (Drew) and Patrick Cosgrove (Maggie). His eight grandchildren: Katie, Colin, Patrick, Tommy, Mary Kate, Maggie, Finn and Molly, and his great-grandchildren Vivian, William, and Watson. Cy is also survived by his brother, Bob and sister-in-law, Joan Lent. And his loyal dog, Bella. He loved children and dogs deeply. And children and dogs loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 10am at St. Jude Chapel, 1521 Main Street, Dallas, Texas, 75201. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Poppie's name to Patriot Paws at patriotpaws.org
