On behalf of the Alonzo Family, the state of Texas as a 20 year former state rep,  the Mexican American Democrats of Texas...we  extend a fond farewell to Tom, a great Democrat and condolences to his family.

Tom was a gentleman ... May he rest in Peace...

Tom was an ever present constant in our Democratic Party meetings and conventions for my 40+ years of participation.  He will be missed.

Tom and I worked together in Dallas County politics back in the 1980's. He was encyclopedic in his recall of political events and persons and a valuable resource for me and so many others. He definitely made a contribution. His passing is a sad loss for many, and he will be missed.  

Tom was a founding and current valuable member of the Park Cities Central Dallas Democrats.  He was  a unique  presence with his rich and commanding baritone voice and his equally commanding knowledge of the history of the Democratic Party in Texas.   He had a limitless and  passionate interest in the political system and gave generously of his time and talents at every turn.  He was an equally avid researcher of the JFK Assassination and a consistent presence at the annual conventions.    He had a deep and abiding respect for the truth and dedicated his life to it, no matter the consequences.  He will be missed.   Let us  honor Tom as he honored us.

Tom and I met through amateur radio in the '80s.  I moved from the Dallas area in the early '90s.  We continued our friendship until his passing.  As others have said,   he had a vast knowledge of how our system works.  He loved being involved in the Democrat Party and other organizations.  Tom was a loyal and good friend.  I will really miss him.   Rest In Peace

Tom Blackwell was a unique individual, who cared deeply about the government representing the citizens  responsibly and fairly. He was a quiet yet forceful personality, who conducted himself with dignity and showed respect to others. When Tom spoke up at monthly meetings of the Park Cities Central Dallas Democratic Club, he usually drew a chuckle when saying, "I'll be brief."  One could tell that he held himself to the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and conduct. Tom had a comprehensive memory of past office holders at the State level, and particularly the county judgeships going back decades.  He also was fascinated by the search for the truth about what really happened to President Kennedy in Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963, and attended the annual conventions in Dallas which brought together many authors and other respected researchers who shared his disbelief that the truth had been told by the Warren Commission. Tom was a kind and honest man who adored his mother, and I feel certain that she adored him.

Tom was an avid ham radio operator and instrumental in helping Amateur Radio when it intersected with the law.  He was also a great asset to the Dallas County Democratic Party.  He will be missed. Godspeed and 73 Tom. sk

While Thomas and I were not close friends we were companions. He made going to school enjoyable and inspired to learn what we were both sharing in knowledge. He and all will be missed of the blessings and friendship of our togetherness . Smile your Loved

A good man.  Like most good people, I did not know him well enough.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Tom’s passing.  He was a kind friend, a mentor in all things political, and first and foremost, a devoted son.
He is in my prayers. 

Tom was an entertaining historian, a great colleague, and a patient mentor and friend.  In 2008, we worked together on a Texas Democratic Party resolution honoring Craig Watkins, who was at the time Attorney General for Dallas County and a driving force in setting free innocent Texans who had been incarcerated for crimes they did not commit.  Tom's knowledge of the Party's inner mechanism was of immense value to all of us.  I will never forget his rich voice, his gentle demeanor, or his hearty laugh.  Tom, you will truly be missed.

Tom was an active amateur radio operator and held the Amateur Extra class license, the highest class available. He was a life member in both the American Radio Relay League and the Texas VHF-FM Society. Tom filed several several petitions for rule making  with the FCC, all of which were passed into law. He was a dear friend for many years. His friendship will never be forgotten.

Tom had a commanding presence with his above-average height, above-average voice and above-average mind.  In other words, Tom Blackwell just stood out of the crowd. He will be missed in many ways. Godspeed, Tom.

It was always a pleasure to see Tom come into one of our Preston Hollow Democrats meetings. He had a comprehensive knowledge of the Democratic process along with historical references.  His wonderful baritone voice precluded the need for a microphone as he could command the attention of all who were there. I am very fortunate to have known Tom through the years and will miss him.


I met Tom 20 years ago at a Democratic party function. I realized very quickly that Tom was interested in politics not for himself but to improve our community.  He possessed an incredibly detailed knowledge of the Democratic party and politics in general.   When asked,  he always made time to share his knowledge.   You could always count on him to give an honest opinion.     We will all miss him.  My condolences to his  family.

It’s hard to imagine gatherings without him.  He was always there.  He was always engaged.  He was always passionate about making Dallas County a better place for its citizens.  

You’ll be missed.  Rest In Peace.

Tom was one of life’s gentlemen, a Democrat’s Democrat. There was nothing he didn’t know about the history  of Texas Politics, my 28 years in Dallas are richer and certainly better informed because of our association and friendship. May he Rest In Peace.

Mr. Blackwell was a gentleman of gentlemen’s whom always took time to share his political knowledge on numerous democratic issues. He was always ready to  present democratic jeopardy at any moment. "In memoriam." He was an awesome researcher on many political issues and often helped in areas where most would have no knowledge of, he understood most public policies and the needs of the people. I will miss sharing a good laugh with Tom before getting one of his famous long speeches, and new campaign strategies. I will miss you my Democratic friend.

Tom was a gentle and kind soul whom always took time to share his wisdom on numerous democratic issues. He was always well dressed and well-groomed, ready to give a presentation at any moment. He took very seriously his job as presenter of the "In memoriam."  He researched each person very carefully so that he could bring that person to life for all of us who knew the person and for all of us  who  were  just getting to know the  person in  death. He understood that everyone mattered.
Tom you mattered, you will be missed by so many of us. I believe, so many of us mourn that you died alone and we did not know you were not well. We will come together to honor you in the way  you honored so many other fellow democrats. We carry a piece of you in our heart and you will always be a big part of the democratic party of Dallas. You are loved and you are missed.

Tom was an avid Democrat and sought to work positively on multiple issues and to support voting.  For many years, Tom contributed his time and energy to improve Democracy and to share his democratic values.  Tom was generous with his efforts. Rest in Peace. 

Tom Blackwell was one of the founders of the Park Cities/Central Dallas Democrats.  What a powerful contribution that has been and will continue to be!  I met Tom at one of the club's meetings in 2003, and quickly realized what a dedicated and knowledgeable member of the Democratic Party he was.  Tom was a resource and a watchdog for all of us in the party, even nationally.  I will miss seeing Tom at our club meetings and even more so at our post-meeting lunches.  We enjoyed his tales of his experiences in the  party and as a researcher of the assassination of President Kennedy.  My favorite story he told was more personal.  It was about the pet chicken he and his mother loved and enjoyed.  Thank you, Tom, you are unforgettable.

Tom Blackwell has been an active member of North Texas PC Users Group since 1991. He was gracious with his time. Tom was an avid supporter of new technologies and ideas. We will miss you.
