Steven Michael Ellis

He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Maureen Ellis and their three children, Emily (Erik), Andrew (Catherine), and Kylie and three grandsons, Ethan, Everett and Christopher, as well as his mother, Margaret (Bob) and brothers Tim (Stephanie) and Mark (Susie). He is predeceased by his father, Jim (Joyce). Steve’s son James joined him in Heaven twelve days after his passing.

Steve was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina and raised in Stockton, California, the eldest of three rambunctious, fun-loving brothers. Even as a young boy and teenager, he was a devout Christian. An excellent student, he carried a near-perfect GPA throughout high school and college and was an outstanding athlete and highly competitive high-school wrestler.

He attended Abilene Christian University then moved to Dallas. His long career saw him involved in a variety of interests including a wine-broker entrepreneurship and as an executive leader in the financial and banking industries.

It was in Dallas that he met the love of his life, Maureen. They were married in 1982 and honeymooned in Paris. This started a life-long love of travel and together, and later as a family of six, they took many trips and created great memories, not only for themselves, but for all those they were generous enough to bring along with them.

Steve gave much of his time and resources volunteering for charities to which he was committed. He served as the Wine Chair for the American Heart Association’s Cotes du Coeur Gala for twenty years and was involved in a variety of fund-raising events including Orphan Angels, Trinity Christian Academy and Shelton Schools. He served as a board member for Light Up to Live Foundation, that raises funds to support veterans. A deeply Christian man at heart, he and Maureen were both active members of Watermark Community Church in Dallas.

His best friends were his brothers and Steve cherished the time he spent with Tim and Mark, especially their fishing trips and their adventures attending the Super Bowl.

Steve loved to play tennis, to grill-out, to watch and interact (loudly) with televised football games, to tour wineries and savor the taste of a good red. He loved the water – being on the beach, scuba diving, boating, especially so when he did it with those he loved. Steve was the most welcoming man. When you met him, his instant warmth and familiarity immediately made you feel included.

Above all, Steve loved his family, to whom he will be an inestimable loss.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Watermark Community Church, 7540 Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway, Dallas, TX 75251 on Thursday, June 10th at 2:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, the service will also be streamed online at http://watermark.org/memorialservice.
