Was born in Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas, to Leroy Davis Hawkins and L'Orean Calhoun Hawkins on July 16, 1924. She survived one sister, Charlene and two brothers, LD and "Buddy" Malcoum Hawkins.
She is survived by son James C. Read and daughter Sherry Anne Read; two grandsons, John Kyle Read and James Kelly Read Cordell, and three great granddaughters, Madison, Abigail and Emily Cordell.
Ruth was a lifetime member of University Park United Methodist Church.
