Roy was born September 5, 1945 in Gulfport, Mississippi to William Elton Cox and Louise Nicey (Lewis) Cox. Roy was the youngest of five children. He spent his early childhood in Mississippi and Alabama. The family then moved to Dallas where he received his education.
Roy worked his entire adult life in plastics. He owned and operated Cox Plastics where he designed and fabricated non-corrosive containers for companies throughout the DFW Area.
Roy was a member of Christian Life Cathedral in Dallas, where he served. Roy had a true heart for the lonely and alienated. On Sundays he would regularly pick up the elderly which included, widows, and shut ins and bring them to church and return them home after service. He would prepare meals and deliver them to the homeless in Dallas with his family, living the example of Christ’s love.
On February 6, 1982 he married the love of his life Peggy Ann Wyatt at Christian Life Cathedral in Dallas by Pastor Bert Allbritten. The beginning of a wonderful marriage that would last nearly 38 years at which time Peggy passed on August 23, 2020. Together they raised three children, Cheryl (Brad) Luttrell of Bartonville, TX, Jamie Cox, of Ferris TX, and Pamela (Ken) Callahan of The Colony, TX. Roy and Peggy loved to travel and loved the outdoors. Their home was a gathering place to celebrate holidays and special occasions. At one point they opened and operated a restaurant Peggy’s Place. In their retirement they purchased an RV and traveled, and spent time flea marking.
Along with his children Roy is also survived by Grandson Brad Luttrell, and his Fiancé Analise Minjarez, Granddaughter Becca Luttrell, and Granddaughter Danielle Cox, sisters Johnnie Wakefield, and Betty Caldwell as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Bobby Politz, and Brother Bill Cox.
