Roy was born in 1926 to Leslie Elmo and Alta Mae Brandon in Alvarado, Texas. He graduated Venus High School and immediately enlisted in the Merchant Marines. He sailed over the entire world and his experiences created stories to tell for the remainder of his lifetime. Once home, he attended college, began work, and met Virginia Elizabeth (Beth) Brandon. They married in November 1947 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Roy enlisted in the Navy in February 1952. He was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he and Beth spent two wonderful years. He was transferred as a Land Man to Ozona, Texas, followed by moves to Midland, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico. He was then transferred to Houston, Texas to lead their Government Regulations Department. He was the liaison to Washington D.C. to ensure their compliance with the Department of Energy and the implications of the Windfall Profits Tax. He retired from Gulf Oil Corporation after 35 years in 1983.
Upon retirement, Roy and Beth returned “home” to Alvarado, Texas, where he built their beloved family home. One could always find him outside working in his garden or driving in his golf cart.
