Ronald Lee Genter

He graduated from Glidden High School and went on to attend Iowa State University graduating in 1958 with a degree in geology with a minor in math and physics. Having gone through Naval ROTC at ISU, he was commissioned as an Ensign USNR at graduation. He then spent 2 years active duty on board the USS Maury, a US Navy scientific ship operating in the Mediterranean and Gulf of Siam followed by 4 years reserve.

After graduation from ISU and before going to the active duty, Ron married Janet Joleen Neubaum on November 23, 1958. Jan was teaching 1st grade in Glidden and is where they met. They have three children Wendy, Kari and Robert.

Following release from active duty, Ron was employed with Chevron Corporation for 38 years as an exploration geophysicist. With Chevron he was involved with interpretation, data processing, training and management of geophysical operations all over North America. He retired from Chevron in 1996 and did consulting work for about 5 years.

After full retirement, Ron pursued his favorite activities of wood working, golf and volunteer work. He was a volunteer at a food pantry in Midland for 15 years. He served on the board for 8 years and was Chairman for 3 years.

In 2015 Ron and Jan moved to Highland Springs Retirement Community in Dallas. They have lived there every since.

He is survived by his wife Janet Joleen Genter, daughters Wendy Genter Fast and husband Clayton Fast and Kari Anne Deterding and husband James Ray Deterding; and son Robert Wallace Genter and wife Karla Hommertzheim Genter; two grandsons Owen Henry Genter and Graham Wallace Genter; sister Patricia Steigerwalt from San Angelo, Texas and brother James Genter from Glidden, Iowa.
