U.S. AIR FORCE, RETIRED, age 78, of Garland Texas.
Ted was born in Havana Illinois, September 25, 1933' and passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012.
He is preceded in death by his Mother (Fern), Father (Chester), 3 Brothers (Donald, Henry, Lowell) and 1 Sister (Heilda)
He was born September 25,1933 to Fern and Chester Smith, in Havana IL, graduated from Havana High School, he Joined the Air force February 10, 1953 , he married Shirley Smith April of 1954, they had 4 beautiful children, he spent 13 months in Vietnam and retired at Castle Air force Base in Winton CA in 1983 after serving 30 year. While in the Air Force he received a bronze star, and numerious other medals and citations. After retirement he worked and retired from Foster Farms in Winton CA, he then moved to Garland Texas, February 1990 where he spent years continuing to serve by volunteering at the Dallas VA and the Lone Star Chapter, Paralyzed Veterans of America.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley Smith, Daughter, Frances Williams and her partner Les Gibbins, 3 sons ( Ted Smith Jr. Spouse Robyn Smith, Tim Smith and Greg Smith, spouse Karen Smith) 13 Grand Children and 12 Great Grand Children and various nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home, Monday, March 19, 2012, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral Service, 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the chapel of Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home.
Internment with military honors at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Robert (Ted) Smith to the Lone Star Chapter Paralyzed Veterans of America, 3925 Forest Lane, Garland, Texas 75042.
