Robert Carrington (Bob) Lackey Jr. was born October 7, 1937, to Robert C. Lackey Sr. and Vara Gibbs Lackey in Richmond, VA. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, the University of Richmond and Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. He served 32 years as a Naval Reserve officer before retiring.
His civilian career with the Ford Motor Company began in Atlanta, GA. He progressed to districts in Charlotte, Teterboro, NJ, Livonia, MI, Davenport, IA, Washington D.C., Omaha, Denver, and Chicago. His last position before retirement was Southwest Regional Manager of the Ford Customer Service Division in Dallas.
Bob enjoyed restoring Ford vehicles, especially '56 Thunderbirds. He was a member of several car clubs, the Navy League, and Kappa Sigma fraternity. He enjoyed boats and water and beaches. He was a 17-year member of St.Andrew United Methodist Church, UMM, the Career Care team, Joy and Grace Sunday School Classes. Bob met his future wife, Louise, in Orlando, FL. They were married in 1962. The Lackey's travelled extensively as hosts for Ford Motor Co. trips in Europe, Asia, South America, and the Caribbean. They made domestic and foreign private trips also.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Louise Smart Lackey, Sisters, Jane Lackey Malone and husband Warren of Richmond, VA, Ruth Lackey Chamberlin and husband Barry of Georgetown, TX, Brothers in law, Harold Smart and wife Camille of Locust Grove, GA, and James Smart of Garden City, MI, Several cousins, nieces, nephews and his beloved St. Andrew family.
The family will receive friends at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Wednesday evening, June 19, from 5:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew U.M. Church, 5801 W. Plano Pkwy. Plano, TX 75093, or to the charity of your choice.
