Richard was raised in Little Mexico (El Barrio) and attended Crozier Tech High School until 1964. During this time he proudly served as part of the school's Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC).
Mr. Sotero served in the Vietnam War for three years as a Private E-1. During his time in the military he earned many medals, but his greatest honor was receiving the Purple Heart. He married Ramona in 1971 and the couple had two children. He was a security officer for UT Southwestern Medical Center for more than thirteen years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, playing golf, playing Sudoku and spending time with his family. He also loved dancing, grilling, family trips to San Antonio and especially, praising the Lord.
His family and friends will remember him as a comedian, prankster, and a character. He was loving, caring, open hearted and a great cook. Last, but not least, he was the life of the party regardless of where he was.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bartolo and Georgia Sotero; brother, Gilbert Luna; grandparents, Concepcion and Atanacio Sotero, Vicenta and Guillermo Luna.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Sotero; daughter, Yvonne D. Sotero; son-in-law, Carlos Mendez; son, Ben Matthew Sotero; granddaughter, Desiree A. Guerra; grandson, Frank H. Guerra III; great-grandsons, Jayden and Benjamin (Bubbas); sisters, Christina Sotero, Margarita Quientero; brother, Arthur Sotero, Sr. along with many nieces and nephews.
