Phyllis Jean Dunlap Shaddock passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024, surrounded by her adoring husband, beloved children and family. She was born on July 14, 1944, in Kansas City, MO., to Margaret and Donald Dunlap Sr. Phyllis’ radiant smile and unforgettable bright blue eyes brought joy to everyone she encountered.
Phyllis moved to Dallas when she was fourteen years old where she attended Thomas Jefferson High School. Phyllis was recognized for her loveliness and was named a “Beauty” in high school. She met her future husband on a blind date while visiting her sister at Texas Christian University, which she later attended. While at Texas Christian University, she joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology. She was the Sweetheart of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and named a “Beauty” at Texas Christian University.
A gifted artist with a keen eye, she had a passion for collecting antiques and paintings. Phyllis took great joy in sharing the beauty she found in antiques and paintings with those around her.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished her family more than anything else, instilling in them the value of caring for one another. She was the heart of the family, bringing everyone together through cherished traditions and trips, always finding joy in creating lasting memories and shared experiences. Her laughter and status as a “second mom” to many of her children’s friends will be cherished in their memory and all who loved her.
Phyllis and her husband, Peter, shared a true love story that spanned more than sixty years. Their unwavering devotion to each other was evident to all who knew them and together, they built a family founded on love and kindness.
She is survived by her husband Peter Shaddock, Sr. and their four children: son Peter (Julie) Shaddock Jr., son Mark (Maria) Shaddock, son Todd (Grace) Shaddock,daughter Elizabeth Shaddock (Timothy Buquoi); twelve grandchildren: Corbin, Toby and Kate Shaddock; Adeline and Eloise Shaddock; Christopher, Thomas, Abigail and Amelia Shaddock; Fiore, Elizabeth and Merritt Cesare; her sister Karen Weaver, brother Don Dunlap Jr., and a large extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home.
A service to honor Phyllis’ life will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 26 at Highland Park United Methodist Church in the Sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church in her name.
Pallbearers are Peter Shaddock Jr., Mark Shaddock, Todd Shaddock, Timothy Buquoi, Corbin Shaddock, Toby Shaddock, Fiore Cesare and John Wren.
The family would like to thank long-time friends Mary Martha Harper and Shalom Santa Cruz for their extra love and devotion through the years.
