Opal "Dumpy" Charlotte Gilby passed away peacefully on January 3, 2023. She was born on August 31, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Ralph and Emma Gilby, and attended Sunset High School, graduating in 1954. She then attended TCU in Ft. Worth, graduating in 1957. In 1958, Dumpy, became a hostess for Braniff Air Lines and flew until Braniff declared bankruptcy in 1982. Following her departure from Braniff, Dumpy worked at AG Edwards until her retirement. She remained an active member of The Clipped Bees, an organization of former Braniff hostesses.
Dumpy was preceded in death by her beloved brothers and sisters, Dr. Ralph Gilby, Lee Gilby and Carol Gilby Hill. She is survived by her sister-in-law Pat Gilby of Wilmington, Delaware, her 10 nieces and nephews, Gary Gilby and his wife Debbie of McKinney, Cynthia Gilbreath and her husband Jerry of Decatur, Ralph Gilby and his wife Kim of Cedar Park, Bruce Gilby and his wife Judy of Benton, Arkansas, Kathy Emanuel and her husband Steve of Temple, Brian Gilby and his wife Brenda of Haslet, David Gilby and his wife Terri of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Lee Sestrich and her partner Carl of New York City, New York, Lee Gilby and his wife Anjie of Euless, Elizabeth Tamez and her husband Rene of Tomball and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was and is loved and will be missed by all!
